Introduction to Free Software
hat would you think if someone told you that you could get a computer operating system created by volunteers for little or no
charge that is more stable and secure (not to mention the friendly user interface) than the expensive proprietry operating system you're
using now? Far fetched? Yet it does exist: it's called Linux and is used by millions of people the world
over for everything from supercomputer clusters, to embedded devices, to the humble desktop PC.
How about a free office suite complete with word processor, spreadsheet, drawing application and slide presenter that can import and export
files in Microsoft Office formats? OpenOffice.org is starting to be adopted by governments and business
in addition to home users.
And these are only the tip of the iceberg. These are all manifestation of the Free Software movement.
Free Software is transforming to world of information technology and providing access to advanced software
applications to millions of people for little or no cost at all. Free Software is created by thousands of volunteer developers
the world over via the internet who share their ideas and skills to provide free software code to anyone who wants to use it,
for whatever purpose without restriction. If you want to find out what Free Software has to offer to you then make time to
come to this FREE seminar about Free Software.
