Howdy, Running Debian etch using Kernel-image-2.8.11-1-K7 on one machine & Debian Sarge kernel-image.2.6.8-2-686 on a Benq Joybook 2100. Recently purchased an Epson Perfection 4180 Scanner Installed /root/iscan_ 1.15.0-3_i386.deb on both machines checked sane-find-scanner for each machine found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0118 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:005:002 for the AMD machine. found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0118 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:004:003 for the Benq. checked scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool for either machine. checked /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf on both machines the files are the same ran man sane-epkowa on both machine the epson 4180 is listed as supported. NB the scanner works using the Benq Joybook but only when I envoke iscan -- command line When I envoke Xsane directly or via gimp the following appears irrespective of the machine used No devices available no devices available help close Have been trying to think, what else to check , what needs to be added or changed in what records to suit each machine. My previous scanner, an Epson 1260 was a piece of cake to install I trust the information provided above is Ok. All help greatly appreciated Thanks Laurie
