A properley set up mail server wont allow an undefined to address.
Or a none existing one - Ive hit that problem B4.
The standard is to use yourself as the to recipient.

Not sure what you mean by properly set up mail server.

For years, I have maintained lists of various groups of people in my
address book.

When I want to send an e-mail to one or more of the groups and
sometimes individuals at the same time, I just BCC each entry. Never
had a single problem with undefined addresses.
