I have 8.04 on my machine running a Nvidia card and it works fine. A friend in New Zealand wanted to install Linux as he wasn't happy with M$ anymore and I couldn't get his X server to run any higher than 800x600 with his Nvidia card.<BR>

Browsing the forums it appears it's a big bug with this distro. I then installed 7.10 and he now has better resolution. No amount of playing around with xorg.conf made any difference. I tried both the repo nvidiaglx-new and the proprietory version from Nvidia<BR>

I haven't seen this: I'm using KDE4 on Kubuntu 8.04.
However, I would be inclined to ask if the same machines crash if they
use kdm/X instead.
That way we know whether the problem on those machines is todo with X or
gdm.

Hi,
Just to add, I have also heard other people reporting the crashes but have
not experienced it myself... On my desktop PC I am running Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64
and on my laptop I run Ubuntu 8.04 x86..the laptop has been running since
before the Beta was released and i've just been apt-get updating it as I go
along... the desktop PC I did a fresh install about 5 days ago.

Hi pluggers,
[I noticed there were some job ads in the archives, and I trust this
posting conforms with the interests of the list. (I'm actually a member
of ASLUG
Alice Springs Linux Users Group)].
Batchelor Institute is an institute of Indigenous tertiary education,
with headquarters 100 km south of Darwin in the NT. Batchelor is seeking
applications from people interested in the job of ICT Manager for the
whole Institute.
While the desktop and server environment is (currently) predominantly
Windows, experience with virtualisation and Unix/Linux would be
beneficial.
A key attribute would be openness and an ability to work creatively with
non-mainstream cultures, both in the broader social sense (Indigenous
vrs Non-indigenous) as well as in a narrower Information Technology
sense (Windows, Mac, Unix/Linux cultures, as well as open source and
proprietary cultures).
Batchelor runs some Linux servers, and open source apps like moodle,
drupal and mediawiki.

It'd be great, except that "the country" is not another suburb. We
already have respondents to this thread from Broome to Albany, and even
all those in the southern half are hundreds of kms apart - I vote for
Albany 8-) .

greetings all,
after recently having my laptop hdd die on me, I've reinstalled debian
etch (was previously running sarge).
I use fluxbox and I set all my windows to "remember" position and
dimensions. all but one window remembers its position, this is
multi-gnome-terminal.
every time I close multi-gnome-terminal and reopen it, it moves down the
screen by approximately 20 pixels (2mm-ish).
i've googled and can't find any answers...
can anyone assist as it's starting to really bug me, being a neat freak
and all that shizz.
