First off: welcome to the Linux world TJ :-)<br>

Are you planning to develop your own web application or do you just
want to be able to put your artwork up on the web and manage it?<br>

For development you'll want to look for books on the topic of LAMP...
Linux, Apache, MySQL, Php. The LAMP platform is
well-documented as the combination is so frequently used to build
applications.<br>
<br>
If you'd just like to put your artwork up on the web then you have
several options. Most obvious would be to use a Content Management
System (CMS) aka a generic web application allowing even relative
neophytes to create and update web content. There are many CMSs out
there for the LAMP platform for you to peruse and try out.<br>

You can also buy space on a web hosting service that provides a CMS
environment for you.<br>
<br>
Google will let you find plenty of good how-to docs for installing and
configuring each element of LAMP but you may not find what you want for
the
application development side of things.<br>
<br>
I find adding Ubuntu to the search terms for google sometimes brings up
good documents and other times it's best replaced with linux or nothing
at all. So try "apache installation how-to" for instance.<br>

As a relatively recent convert from the evil empire, I have downloaded
and installed Ubuntu 8.04 on an old i386. I'm developing a reasonable
degree of comfort navigating around Ubuntu and think I have a good
grasp of what's going on 'under the hood' I intend to develop a working
knowledge of server admin and web hosting, for a possible small home
business venture for a collection of original artwork in my possession.
I understand Apache and other open source web utilities are the go for
this type of enterprise, but I am having dificulty tracking down decent
'how-to' literature on the Ubuntu/Apache/MySQL platforms. If anyone out
there has been down this road and has a source on the basic user,
not-so-techie language versions of the how-to's I would appreciate the
guidance very much.<br>
