On February 20th, 1962 John Glenn made three orbits around the earth. During that flight John saw the lights of the City of Perth from his Friendship 7 space craft. Trackers at Muchea made the first Australian radio contact into space and thus began Australia's continuing involvement in space.<div>
<br></div><div>On Monday February 20th from 5pm at the Northbridge Piazza on the corner of James and Lake Streets in Northbridge, a live contact with the International Space Station will mark the 50th Anniversary of that day. We'll have a message from John Glenn, the Chief Scientist, the Mayor, trackers from Muchea and Carnarvon, radio and optical telescopes, Amateur Radio, a movie or two afterwards and a roof-top Astro-fest on the roof of the Roe Street Car Park across the road.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Thanks to the WA State Records Office, the WA Museum, the City of Perth, the Hills Amateur Radio Group, ARISS and NASA, 10 students from around the state will ask a question from an astronaut in space and you can be there to watch.</div>
