    <p>dnsmasq is a solution I've used in the past, although IIRC it
      doesn't support name overrides</p>
    <p>Also it doesn't handle non-basic DNS entries overly well, if at
      all, eg: SRV records.</p>
    <p>Finally, if memory serves, it's state is ephemeral, so a reboot
      looses State on the DNS side.<br>
      This results in the potential for a dynamic IP assigned device to
      nolonger be resolvable via name after a reboot.<br>

              I also want to allow IP reservation based on MAC address,
              and the same mechanism should allow name override</p>
            <p>Finally, what management tools does everyone use?<br>
              Ideally a basic web or ncurses tool that I can give a
              power user access to.</p>
            <p>The use case is small (potentially domestic networks)
              that have various IOT and similar devices where not all
              machines on the network can leverage AVAHI/mdns for
              discovery (That's HARD on some mobile devices from a
              browser)<br>
