So there are a few possibilities...<div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Either you have some problems with your hardware.</div><div dir="auto">Or the newer software is incompatible with the hardware.</div><div dir="auto">This second option would lead me to believe drivers are a problem.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Let's investigate a bit more though...</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">When you boot of the USB, during the boot process (after menu selection) you should be able to press escape and view the startup messages. Any errors or problems here are worth noting.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">If you are able to get to the desktop you can review the log files in /var/log</div><div dir="auto">Also if you run `dmesg` in a terminal that will provide some useful info.</div><div dir="auto">Again, your looking for errors.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">I'd also wonder if you created a Ubuntu 14.04 boot USB and if that worked or not. 20.10 amd64 which works fine on a second computer but not on the

<p>A search on google indicates this problem is quite common but I
have not found a way of repairing it.</p>
<p>I have had varying degrees of success using advanced options and
selecting various options but there appears to be a mismatch of
some sort.</p>
<p>It is a bit beyond my knowledge base</p>

Hi all,<br>

In November my desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04 (I
think) suggested that I upgrade.<br>
<br>
I left it doing it's thing over night and it failed to
upgrade.<br>
<br>
When rebooted it comes up with a message<br>
<br>
end Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root
fs on unknown-block(0,0)<br>
<br>
I have absolutely no idea how to get it going<br>
<br>
I did download ubuntu-20.10-desktop-amd64(1) onto a usb
and tried to install or boot the computer from it but no
results there either.<br>
<br>
Hope some one can head me in the right direction even if
is just to recommend somewhere to take it<br>
