Did this, but umount $DEVICE failed : DEVICE OR RESOURCE BUSY....

tried 'umount -f $DEVICE' and 'umount --force $DEVICE' error returned
was - 'umount expects single parameter'

It seems that the umount that runs on the install disk doesn't understand
these options, or I typed in the wrong ones.  I think the former - suspect
it's running a non standard umount command (WHY???)
