[plug] hardware compatibility - new Sony cdrw Powerburn 175E?

Hello All,
just wondering if anyone had any experience with these things.

Mandrake lists SONY  CRX-175M  compatible under Mandrake 8.2,
but the only two models I've found sold locally are
Sony Burnproof 174A1 ($165) and Powerburn 175E ($179)

I think both systems are hardware driven, and I may be safe, but thought I 
should make sure as they won't give me my money back if I say it won't work 
with Linux!

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
