[plug] internal vs external modules kernel support

Hi,

If support for a device is integrated into the kernel or module support can be
loaded, how do you know which one is running and how do you force one or the
other to load? 

I'm trying to get a pcmcia network card working and having some problems.  As I
understand it, the 2.4 kernal has internal support for pcmcia and it is not
compatible with the external modules.
