Thanks heaps, Russell and Bernard.   Glad this was interesting to you too, 
Cameron!   Prior to reading any of your replies I had to Do Something (tm) 
as userland was screaming.   I happened to use Russell's method of changing 
the gid in /etc/passwd and recursively chown'ing things.   I had not 
thought to look in their crontab, etc though so will go back and do that.
The long and short of it is Happy User (tm) but KDE was a little narky when 
they logged back in - complained about Arts if I recall their comments 
correctly.   This is possibly tied up with the extras that Russell 
mentioned that, as yet, I have not done.
Just spotted your extra reply, Bernard!   Will do the find's that you 
suggested - looks like a neat way of doing it.
