I think that is obsolete. Use 'mount -t smbfs' for manual mounts.

linneighborhood appears to be rather outdated.
I suggest using the built-in network browser in Nautilus or konquerer if
you want a GUI.

Of course. You cannot let users do indiscriminant mounting.
Same with smbmount.
