[plug] openoffice pdf export blows file size way high

I have done a bit of googling on this without satisfaction, so if
someone has a link to info ...

Scenario:
A document, containing ONLY text of around 20k typically blows out to
500-600k when exported as pdf in OO.o 2.0.x. How can I overcome this?

My efforts do far:
1/ I can do the export manually and set the compression of images and so
on, but these files have no images.
2/ I can't see any option to embed (or not) fonts and I know this can
make a big difference
3/ I can post-process the resulting pdf file using ghostscript and the
file comes down to very close to the original OO.o file size - sometimes
less depending on the document(s), but I don't want to have to do this
two-step technique

Any clues for the clueless.
