Hi everyone,
We are excited to share the initial announcement for Linux Services
for Linux (LSL): a project that turns a Linux Mint LiveUSB into a
WSL-like workflow for Windows users who want more native Linux power.
WSL is a killer feature in Windows 11. Reimplementing this in Linux
may be a key step to the year of the Linux desktop.
Why use this instead of WSL?
- More direct access to the Linux kernel and low-level tooling.
- No WSL VM memory cap surprises.
- A portable Linux environment you can boot on different machines.
- Practical path for users moving off unsupported Windows installs.
All this while still keeping the key features from WSL you know and love.
- /mnt/c automatically mounted
- Ctrl-C copies selected text AND cancels running process otherwise,
just like God^H^H^H Windows Terminal intended.
- Easily choose, mount and run your existing Services for Linux.

Quickstart Install (from a booted Mint LiveUSB session):
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gmatht/lsl-usb/main/fetch.sh
| sudo bash
This is the first public announcement. More docs, updates, and
workflow improvements are planned throughout the year as we continue
building toward a stronger Linux desktop experience.
Best,
