Yes, you will need something with a bit more guts to route 500+mbit, even
to a single point (think about what's going on with those bits!)

I have a mikrotik RB5009 that can handle 2500 on fttp, even with multiple
vlans and labs in the mix.

NBN fttp with 2gbe links are "mainstream" now, hardware hasn't necessarily
caught up yet.
