Hello

After much deliberation, I have decided not to nominate for an executive
position but to nominate again for an OCM in 2026.

Firstly a vote of thanks to James as out-going Chair for managing the
requirements for NotForProfit reporting and technical upgrades for the PLUG
server and the resulting reduction in server and storage costs. All of this
has brought things forward and refreshed PLUG systems for this year.

In the spirit of Onno's post a while back about his work and OSS, I will post
my thoughts on PLUG and OSS contributions but ENOTIME before the AGM tomorrow
(erm, today). I'll draw comparisons between censorship attempts in 1999 and
the present banning of under 16s from some sites; which may not be to
everybody's liking ! Eject me from the committee if required :-)

I would also like to suggest for the 2026 committee that the executive roles
are more succinctly defined; that expectations are for the Treasurer to commit
a 15 minute block per week to PLUG accounts rather than having to respond
ad-hoc to each request. That expectations are for the Secretary to commit to
15 minutes per week to manage UGMM member renewals and to draft an agenda for
the meetings. And that the Chair role is a meeting management and guidance one
in the first instance. This is committee work old-school and I say this not to
say "do more" but do a disciplined less and ask for help if that is not enough.

Also, Nick I'd like to ask if you would pause committee work for 12 months and
let things break if they must or have others step up into doing the work. I
say this because Nick has done more than his share and the effort of asking
for participation can be depleting and frustrating. It is also a request that
other people step up so Nick can come along to events rather that have to run
them. I apologise at doing this as a late post to the plug list but I have
seen Nick's efforts first-hand and it is the "would other people step up for
2026" that is the message here.

We are searching for venues and considering events (a never ending story) so
ideas are as welcome as hard input. Hard input by conversion from list
subscriber to PLUG paid-up member will also give us the ability to support our
services and other events.

If you can make it to the AGM, it would be great to see you there.

All the best
Harry (out-going 2025 OCM)
