If you can tolerate a slightly less basic viewer, geeqie (formerly gqview)
can do the job. When enabling the info box, filename (and other details,
which are configurable) are overlaid onto the image, including in fullscreen
mode. Obviously its built-in file/folder list also shows filenames.
