I was thinking they'd be available for $15, attached to cheap tripods. ::-)

The Internet tells me that I probably have 1/4-20 - quarter inch (the
major, largest diameter), 20 threads per inch, which has fitted the last
few compact digital still cameras I've played with.

I'm not sure what video cameras this applies to. "Professional" cameras
may take a larger 3/8-16 thread.
