On venues, I have considered the Collins Street Centre in South Perth. It's
about 100m from the bus stops on Canning Highway (so 106 is a bus option).
The venue costs $25 to $35 per hour IIRC.

What is lacks is a network connection but if ever it was useful for an
installfest or so on then wireless broadband and a local mirror could be an
option. Bookings are essential for the venue. We did have a talk there for
PLUG in Meeting Room 2 (upstairs) but the main hall is quite large.

Another venue that may be had for modest cost is the hall attached to St
Martins in the Fields church in Kensington. Again, wireless broadband would be
needed.

Finding council facilities with reasonable internet access may be the go.
The George Burnett Centre in Manning has office staff and I assume an internet
connection.

I once checked out the venue at Tech Park and it was available but internet
access was charged at $35 per attendee!

On moving the venue around, I suspect there are a lot of armchair PLUG list
users who will give you all the reasons why they can't get to a venue. I think
they are just excused to explain their shiny trousers. Just keep on with talks
at venues that are easy to find and use and make the topics the focus. I think
having regular talks will create the momentum to bring people out to the
talks. If you reach more people with streaming then a smaller venue is
possible too.

As an aside, Trent (lathiat) runs big LANs so he has gear and may be able to
offer advice on network connectivity in venues. I think the last one they had
at Cannington Greyhounds (hauled in power trucks and all sorts). Could be a
useful discussion.
