My research found similar results last night. My debian fu isn't as
sharp, so I wasn't able to really get a solution at the time.

I was thinking that we could glue a direction changer in the port or
something. Also for the new gear maybe some type of cable clamp to
take the bulk of the weight, rather than the camera port. I'd say the
connectors aren't really designed for the way we are using them. (more
for sitting on the desk next to the computer in post recording).
