My experience is, as well as fdisking DOS partitions, do a mkdosfs -c on
them as well. Windows is thick enough to deduce that "unformatted
partition == no partition -> break out the nukes".

Also, install Linux _after_ all Windows variants to give max control,
and leave a LILO option to boot each DOS partition in case you want to
use the hard disk for something else later (ie, so you can install and
boot DOS or Win and do a fdisk/mbr to axe LILO without the usual
boot-from-DOS-floppy ritual).
