[plug] to-night's meeting

Tonight's meeting..
S&^* I missed it.. How come no-one mentions tomorrow night's meeting! And
my CDROM has died, half way through an installation of RedHat 5.1 (it kept
crashing Windoze, but I generally blame Windoze than suspect my hardware...
and most of the time I'm right!)

Will the Debian installation be available at the next meeting, or does anyone
have a burn of the RedHat with the rpm upgrade already installed? (The lsl
distribution CD seems to have some missing directories, although it could be
my Cd player misbehaving itself), and the X Windows package manager just
didn't work (two prior installs to confirm). APC magazine mention that it's
buggy and there is an update available...

Has anyone tried using Slackware (I like the distribution, but would prefer
something with a package manager) and installing RPM as an extra? I am
interested in combining the best of both worlds, but would like to know if it
is a reasonable thing to do.

I certainly found it simple to use the Redhat package to setup gimp to access
jpg's.. I didn't manage with Slackware despite several attempts to install
the required libraries.. so far I haven't managed to install Redhat to be able
to install anything not on the original distribution (albeit with very suspect
hardware, nothing against RedHat implied...)

Doug
