[plug] IP Routing Problem on Linux Box

Greetings All,

We are experiencing a problem with our Linux box which appears to be unusual
to say the least.

iiNet have originally set up our two boxes which are acting in this manner:

Internet ---- Router ---- Bastion ----- Proxy ------ Our Network
    iinet 64k

We are trying to add some PC's and various devices on our network under a
10.1.x.x, but when adding:

route add -net 10.1.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 203.20.99.99
^^(this is a real router, but
IP changed
                                                   for this post)

it crashes our email server (running Connect2 on a seperate machine) and
gives a series of errors about eth0 timing out (eth0: transmit timed out,
Tx_status 00 status 2000 tx FIFO room 3068) on both the bastion and proxy.

The outputs from an ipconfig are as follow:

Proxy:
>lo Link encap:Local Loopback
> inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0
> UP BROADCAST LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3584 Metric:1

> TX packets:469162 errors:1 dropped:0 overruns:0
> Interrupt:5 Base address:0x320

Bastion:
>lo Link encap:Local Loopback
> inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0

>eth1 Link encap:10Mbps Ethernet HWaddr 00:60:97:03:6A:3F
> inet addr:203.20.82.9 Bcast:203.20.82.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
> UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
> RX packets:28754 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
> TX packets:246792 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
> Interrupt:10 Base address:0x300

Can anyone cast their eyes over this and see if there is anything obvious
that stands out as to why this is causing an error; added a subnet in this
manner shouldn't be causing problems as far as I can see?

The problem has been reported to iiNet, but they have taken over two weeks
to look at this and I still haven't heard *any* feedback from them apart
from one call asking for passwords.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
