The time I did that I could login...
Did you try at the lilo prompt
<kernel> 1
<kernel> single
(both should work)
<kernel> init=bash
I've not tried the last - it's from what I think I rememeberwhat I think
someone else did once....
Failing all else, buut from floppy and say
rescue
