[plug] DNS (Was: I think I broke it ...)

David Burridge has problems with Squid not working when DNS is
not available.

Why not setup a chaching DNS on your Linux box? And if you want
to be even smarter :-) you can make it the master for your own
subnet; at work we use (say) realdomain.com.au
At home I have machines in hart.realdomain.com.au
This works well for me; plus I don't have to modify anything else
to let other boxes Telnet or FTP to my Linux box (Debian is
pretty fussy about you being who you say you are when you connect).

I personally don't use Squid either -- IP Masquerading works too well
and I like each machine to at least pretend to be directly on the 'net.

I guess this is one of the many cool things about Linux. There's lots
of ways to do things, all of them free ;-)

Cheers,

Colin
