Try ksirc if you want a GUI client with lots of powerful scripting
capabilities (uses Perl/sirc) - www.ksirc.org

kvirc also looks nice www.kvirc.org and also uses Perl.

If you don't want a qt/kde based client then yagirc looks kinda cool but
I'm not sure what it's scripting capabilities are.
