[plug] Fast page RAM and EDO RAM

The two links below are good references for simms and memory stuff.

Recently I bought two 16M simms to upgrade my daughter's window box. All they had the day I went was EDO, so I took it home and tried it and the box wouldn't accept the EDO chips. beep beep beep. So I went back and got non EDO and it works.

Her machine is a homebuilt box, with a DELL motherboard, 486-66. Still can't find where EDO is actually marked on the simms. Older systems apparently are less likely to use EDO.

goodluck,
Tamara

One way is to install the RAM on a PNP Pentium MB and read the configuration
info as it boots - it detects EDO RAM.

RAM info. All those little numbers on the chip indicate Manufacturer,
amount of RAM, Quality (letter grade) and nanoseconds.. As far as the
difference btw EDO or not, hmmm...

check on it.
