Ive compiled this kernel on 3 versions of linux..it was successfully installed
until i went fiddling looking for modules that wernt there....
It was a fresh tarball not touched byt the other 2 versions of Linux.
The ide driver is not compiled as a module...nothing is compiled as a module
excepting various iomega support files.
I have recompiled twice since this has happened..very caefully..and very slowly
but the same thing happens...so Im sure the problem is not in the kernel
And like I said before I have reinstalled lilo .
I'm a bit confused by these lines below
Im not too sure what it is you are asking or saying ( BTW there is no .config
attached to your message)
>>I need to confirm if it's correct or not. Since root cannot be mounted,
>>how can any files on the partition influence this?
> >Im out of ideas where else should I look?????

______
>>The debian rescue disk has msdos FS compiled into the kernel since the
>>disk itself is msdos FS. were you typing mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt?
no i typed
mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /floppy
and yes../floppy exists.
( and i tried /mnt)
but i know that would make no difference where i mount the thing...
and like i said i even put in a ext2 and typed the relevent mount -t command....
any floppy..any filesystem it didnt matter ( and YES the command was correct).
it would seem i will have to reinstall.
i looked at the partition table and that appeared to be ok.
