No it gives a different error.. something about Packages.gz not being a
plain
file.. anyway I have fixed it now.
The strange thing was I had 2 slink boxes, with the same versions and
one worked
while the other did not.. Had to be something to do with the millions of
dud
librarys I had installed..
Bit the bullet and did a full re-format and re-install with the slink
cd-s
Much faster/cleaner than before..
freed up nearly 500mb of space, and installed correctly.. ie with a user
and not root.
BTW.. how can you set up your user to have access to everything you will
need.
I have to
usermod -G adm,src,dialout,tty,audio,disk..blah..blah brad
to be able to get access to all the devices.. is this the best way to be
doing it ?
by all the devices I mean, I need access to /usr/src /usr/local /var/log
/dev/fd0
/dev/dsp.. and so on..
It works.. it just means when I find something else I need to be added
to, I have
to re-type the whole lot..
There has to be a better way.. this is unix after all! :p)
BTW: Full re-format and re install of everything... in 5 hours.
Thats a shedload better than my equivalent windows task.. and only 2
re-boots..
one on initial bootup from the CD install and one on the 2.2.11 kernel
install..
As compared to nearly 25 for my windows box for a full re-build..
brad..
