[plug] Linux on an IBM PS/2

Hi, Tamara.
I'm running Debian slink on a PS/ValuePoint which has 8megs, MCA and half a
gig hard disk under the wing of a 486SX33.
It happily runs Apache, an IRC daemon, Samba and can be encouraged to do
the odd spot of compiling. I wouldn't want to try any desktop environment
on it but for its purpose (experimental Linux box and Samba server) it
works well. Installation (Debian hamm) and subsequent upgrades went
smoothly but he must remember to put the keyword "linear" in his lilo.conf
or it'll lock up during boot off the hard disk.
Would strongly agree with others' comments that this is not Earth
shatteringly powerful hardware to cut your teeth on but it *is* a workable
minimalist system -- no graphical desktop.
Cheers,
Denis
