Ok, it hasn't been all plain-sailing though.
I can create eth0:0 all OK, but it doesn't show up when I do 'ifconfig -a'.
I CAN do 'ifconfig eth0:0' and it DOES show the details correctly.
I did have a problem with Apache binding, but that turned out to be a bung
/etc/hosts entry. ^_^;;;
If I DOWN the interface, though, it vanishes!!!
Is there a way to have an interface/alias DOWN, but still there?? Solaris has
this, and it is VERY cool. It means two boxes can have the same IP, one up, and
one down, both configured with all the servers pre-running and bound to the
interface (because you can bind to an interface, even if it's down). Then, it's
a piece of cake to down one, and up the other, to swap which machine is
handling the services...
