How much must a parcel be worth before HM Customs bother
collecting the
	taxes though?

	We haven't been called HM Customs for a v e r y long time.

I believe the official answer is $50 worth of taxes and
duties, which
allows me to import 3 bottles of liquor when i fly in.

There is a bylaw that specifies a minimum of $50.00 to collect
on duty and Sales Tax. This limit has restrictions on usage E.G.
excluding alcohol and Tobacco. As an arriving passenger you, as an Adult
are entitled to $400.0 worth of concessions 250g of cigarettes + 1125mL
of alcohol. Minors (are think there are a few subscribed to this list)
are entitled to $200.00, no allowance for cigs or alcohol.

So at 10%, an order would need to be broken down into
sub-$500 parcels.

Assuming there was not duty on the goods you purchased. However
the Customs Act treats and order of that may be comprised of several
packages as ONE consignment, so you could be up for the entire amount of
tax.

Will this be any different under GST?

'Dunno'. There's a lot of legislation in the wings.

For perfect happiness, remember two things:
	        (1) Be content with what you've got.
	        (2) Be sure you've got plenty.
