James Tauber from Curtin University is giving a talk titled "XML - What
is it and what is it good for?" at the WAUG meeting this Wednesday.
Visitors from PLUG are very welcome. The details are:

WAUG (WA Chapter of the Australian Unix and Open Systems Users Group)
meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month in the lounge of the Victoria
League, 276 Onslow Road, Shenton Park at 6:15pm. The meeting lasts
about an hour and is followed by food. Drinks are available from the
bar.

The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a set of specifications
enabling structured document and data interchange on the World Wide
Web. This presentation looks at the motivation behind XML, the
difference between it and things like LaTeX, and provides a conceptual
overview of the language itself and the larger family of related
specifications (both current and future) that relate to things like
linking and stylesheets. James is the author of a forthcoming book on
XML.
