Both Red Hat and Debian are pretty good, not to mention the rest of the
bunch.

I commend Red Hat, Suse, TurboLinux, et al for anything they do that can
make things a little easier to set up, or customised a little better to
a given environment, but we need a Debian to set the standard for free
(speech, not beer) software. It sets it well - the result embodies the
practical advantages that we've come to take for granted from free
software - security, stability, maintainability as updates become
available, etc.

As far as I'm concerned, the most critical feature of Debian is their
social contract and all that follows from it.
