Have you tried using a different floppy?

I've had that happen to me before where the floppy was corrupting the
image.. changing to a fresh floppy solved it.

Otherwise, it might be something in the Debian install kernel that's
conflicting with your hardware, in which case it might be a good idea to
compile your own install kernel containing support only for the hardware
you have.

The Debian install manual says:

"If you find it necessary to replace the kernel on the Rescue floppy, you
 must configure your new kernel with these features linked in, not in
 loadable modules:
	* Initial RAM disk
	* DOS, Minix and EXT2 filesystems
	* ELF executables
 Copy your new kernel to the file linux on the Rescue Floppy, and then run
 the shell script rdev.sh that you'll find on the floppy"

If you don't have easy access to another linux machine send me a quick
note with your hardware requirements and I'll compile you a kernel.
