[plug] RH 6 upgrade kills X

Upgrading to redhat 6.0 (off a Everything Linux bleeding edge CD so the
errata is up to date as of 12/7) has resulted in a dead X... well not
quite dead, X itself seems to start ok (it gets to the grey hatched
background with an X cursor) but hangs before any window managers start. A
dump of the output from startx (below) has some errors that I'm unable to
find any references to (at least ones for that make any difference) other
than for the suggestion to re run xf86config due to the
_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect:  error (which I did but...). I've verified the
rpm's and things appear ok there as well as re compiling the kernal ( well
I needed to do that anyway :). 

I've about run out of ideas so anything helpful would be appreciated
