Why bother? Do you have any reason to believe you would notice a
performance difference between single or dual ? Celeron vs PIII?

The only time many people hit their CPU limit is with 3D animation games,
wanting to increase the frame rate. A 2nd CPU wont normally help here.
(actually, SMP support is rumoured for QuakeIII)

Why not spend the money on two computers (Linux and windoze), a bigger
monitor, more memory, etc. - could be lots more useful.

Depends on the application. 128k cache can give a very good hit ratio, and
its faster than the PII cache.
