Huh?? Some confusion here. Why pipe lpr into tail? Makes no sense.
Did you intend to read the 'messages' file? No lpd messages there.
Output of 'lpr' was discarded (but not any errors on STDERR).

Check /var/spool/lpd/lp/log maybe.
