yes i did a make modules ; make modules_install..
the thing is they were threre for three boots/power offs...
then went missing ...
i was wondering if it might be a sym link thing --or rather lack of
i tried running a symlink  command to list them but being a newbie it didnt
show me anything i could recognise...
