Check to see if you've got SVGATextMode installed. If so, that's the
likely culprit. To fix it, you can either remove the package or edit
/etc/TextConfig and skip to DefaultMode and choose the one you're after
or even grep the /etc/rc.boot/* scripts to find the line using either
`SVGATextMode` or `stm` (its alias).
