[plug] Windows Briefing

I happened to be at a briefing for Windows 2000 last night, (just so I
could get a nice shiny new coaster), and the M$ employee doing the
presenting was demonstrating how IE5 "remembers" where you've been on
the web and allows autocompletion of URLs you are typing in. The
example he chose was the liberal party, so he started typing "l-i-" in
the box. OK, so the OS was intelligent enough to work out it needed
maybe to stick a "www." in front. What was interesting was the two
sites it brought up other than the liberal party as recently visited -
linux.org and linuxnews.com

And this from a M$ employee? Sort of begs the question - was he scoping
out the competition to see what Linux has that M$ can add to their OS
(stability, user-friendliness...), trying to find the reason behind the
incredible popularity of Linux (price) or just perhaps trying to find a
real OS to run on his PC?

Oh, BTW - no sign of a cusotmisable BSOD. I thought that was mildly
disappointing.

Cheers,

John
