Thanks, X1 or X3 seem to be winners.  According to one manual here, X1 will
not issue result codes 6 or 7, while X3 will not issue result code 6.

6 is "no dialtone" and 7 is "busy".  So X3 would probably be a better choice
than X1 as long as the modem can tell the difference between the two errors.
This capacity may be in the S registers?  X5 is similar to X1.
