When trying to install apt, which I picked up from

ftp://ftp.uwa.edu.au/mirrors/linux/debian/dists/slink/main/binary-i386/admin

(eventually - it's running really slowly) I ran into this problem:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of apt:
 apt depends on libc6 (>= 2.0.7u); however:
  Version of libc6 on system is 2.0.7t-1.
 apt depends on libstdc++2.9; however:
  Package libstdc++2.9 is not installed.

I could not find this package in libs, so had a go downloading
libg++2_8_2_2_91_60-5.deb with this result:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libg++2.8.2:
 libg++2.8.2 depends on libstdc++2.9 (>= 2.91.60); however:
  Package libstdc++2.9 is not installed.
 libg++2.8.2 depends on libstdc++2.9 (<< 2.91.61); however:
  Package libstdc++2.9 is not installed.

Can anyone decode this issue?

K.
