Please tell me that's a typo and you meant to say 1.6 gig HDD :-/.

Sorry I can't shed any real light on your problem though.... My first
thought would be a f*cked up hard drive - can you install anything else on
it and boot from it? Did you tell the linux installer to do a check on the
disk when formatting it?
