Sorry about all the questions I'm just trying to get an idea of how backup exec
works.

Is the same agent used for browse and backup?
Is the agent started as root?
If run as root does the backup agent change userid after starting?
Can you see anything in the log at all about your NT box trying to connect?
Do you know what ports the agent is trying to use?
Have you any packet filtering setup on the Linux box?
