	minicom (1)          - friendly serial communication program
	...
	ttys (4)             - serial terminal lines
	% man ttys

And you will find:
	ttyS[0-3]  are  character  devices for the serial terminal lines.

Try minicom, its text mode, and often preferable to seyon. (ie in an
xterm)
