[plug] Validating a user/passwd

I imagine this will be a simple one.

I am setting up an CGI web page which will produce certain information for
the user after they have validated themselves and I want to validate based
on their login passwords.

I was wondering what command I would look at using to accept a user name and
password combination as input and then return an error code that reveals if
the supplied password for that user was correct.
