I've never had a problem with wget and websites containing ~
Can you let me know (either in private or on the list) what website you
are trying to download, and what errors wget is giving you?

The only websites I've had hassles with are those that try to use
cookies/referers/whatever to avoid automatic websuckers like wget
(like Sun's site. You don't want to know the trouble I had to go through
to download StarOffice from their site, which is totally wget-unfriendly -
and the 70-odd MB download died twice at around the 30MB mark. grrrrrr)
