At the last Monday meeting there was a guy (sorry - I've forgotten your
name) wondering about "modem sharing" - ie making a server machine's
serial ports available to other machines.
While this is a pretty normal feature of dedicated terminal servers and
now Microsoft have come up with a version in their Small Business
Server, I didn't know how to do it under Linux. (I have a vague idea
about it using LAT with DEC systems)
I missed the obvious, though - there's a mini-HOWTO on it ;
http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/Windows-Modem-Sharing.html
Additionally, I came across this on freshmeat.net ;
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/serial/sredird-1.1.5.tar.gz
I chanced across a discussion the other day which mentioned what protocol
Backoffice uses for modem sharing, unfortunately I've forgotten where
that was... Any ideas, anyone?
Nick.
